You’re only as strong as the floor you stand on.
Congratulations on your new hardwood solid floor! Now that it’s installed, regular use will wear on the appearance of your hardwood oak, hardwood cherry, hardwood walnut, or any other hardwood solid floor. Help keep it beautiful with these care tips.
Cleaning & Protecting Wood
- Sweep or vacuum regularly. As dust and dirt start to build up, they can erode the surface of the hardwood and cause irreparable damage. Make sure the vacuum head is brush or felt and that it doesn’t have a beater bar head. Check the wheels for dirt and anything else that could equally damage your floors.
- Use a soft cloth and our recommended hardwood floor claenersproducts to clean up spills as soon as they happen.
- Do not use water as a hardwood floor cleaner. This will damage your floor. Dry sweepers are recommended instead. Do not use hardwood floor cleaner machines. Feel free to ask us aboiut other hardwood floor cleaners.
- Do not use oil soaps, liquid or paste wax products, or other household cleaners that contain lemon oil, tung oil, silicon or ammonia. These harsh products will impair the long-term performance of your floors and could impact their recoat ability. Our own hardwood floor cleaners will beautify and protect your hardwood floor.
- If you have pets, keep their nails trimmed and their paws free of dirt, grease and other substances that could scrape or damage the surface.
- Keep protective pads underneath furniture legs and feet to minimize scratches and dents.
- Never drag furniture or appliances across the floor. Instead use a dolly and protective sheets of plywood.
- Place area rugs over high-traffic areas like landings and room entrances, and in front of sinks. Use rugs that are made of breathable material rather than those with solid rubber or vinyl backings. This will prevent moisture entrapment.
- Use doormats on both sides of doors leading out of the house to catch dirt and moisture that could damage your floor.
